Sincronie at Villa Belgiojoso Brivio Sforza, 2015
Sincronie was born from the desire to create a multidisciplinary project dedicated to contemporary art, rooted in a place with great historical and artistic significance. The project was conceived with the aim of building a bridge between history and contemporary life, in an exchange where the reinterpretation of the past and its traces takes on a contemporary form through the interaction of different artistic forms.
Villa Belgiojoso becomes both the setting and the cradle of an exchange between artists of various disciplines, who are simultaneously engaged in a synchronous dialogue during the residency days.
With the intention of continuing the tradition of exchange and dialogue between the arts that has made Villa Belgiojoso a place that resonates with stories – where the ancient and the modern merge in the continuity that only tradition can create – the villa, its park, the archives, and the art collection will serve as the environment and material of inspiration and exchange between the artist Jorinde Voigt, musician Ricciarda Belgiojoso, and writer Gianluigi Ricuperati.
During the residency, the artists are called to interact with one another, allowing themselves to be carried away by the great creative potential of the place, according to a pre-established theme. For the first edition, the theme chosen was deeply connected to the history of Villa Belgiojoso, namely, the piano pieces Péchés de vieillesse by Gioacchino Rossini, who lived for a period of his life at the villa as a guest of the Belgiojoso family.
The three-part work resulting from the residency at the villa was then presented during a performative evening. On this occasion, the site-specific works of Jorinde Voigt were exhibited in her personal dialogue with Villa Belgiojoso, a dialogue extended to the musician Ricciarda Belgiojoso, who presented a musical performance inspired by, through a joint effort with the artist, the drawings of Jorinde Voigt.
Music, the thread that links the work of the three artists, was also part of the dialogue inspired by Rossini’s Péchés de vieillesse, with Ricciarda Belgiojoso on the piano and Gianluigi Ricuperati, who read a text written during the residency days, born from a profound yet ironic reflection on a place that acts as a time machine. To close the evening, Ricciarda Belgiojoso performed an unpublished manuscript score from 1830 found in the archives of Villa Belgiojoso during the residency.
To allow the public to admire the work of Jorinde Voigt in the unique context in which it was created, accompanied by a video of the performance featuring Ricciarda Belgiojoso and Gianluigi Ricuperati, guided tours were organized throughout the month of September.
The Sincronie project, curated by Carlotta Testori, is a reflection of contemporaneity, fostering an exchange and dialogue between creatives from different fields. It represents a fusion of ancient and modern, not based on contrast, but on the harmonious integration of new creative energies into a context that, since time immemorial, has been a home for all the arts.
