The Gran Sala of Palazzo Belgioioso hosts the presentation of an important editorial initiative promoted by the Fondazione Brivio Sforza. It is the volume titled "Palazzo Belgioioso d'Este: Alberico XII and the Arts in Milan between the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries," edited by Jessica Gritti and Alessandra Squizzato.
On Saturday, November 25, 2017, at 5:30 PM in Piazza Belgioioso, the book will be presented by Stefano Della Torre from the Politecnico di Milano and Alessandro Morandotti from the University of Turin.
The richly illustrated book features a preface by Fernando Mazzocca and includes contributions from the curators as well as Alessia Alberti, Eugenia Bianchi, Andrea Di Lorenzo, and Francesco Repishti.
The monumental reconstruction of Palazzo Belgioioso d'Este in the heart of Milan is attributed to the aspirations of its patron, Prince Alberico XII Barbiano di Belgioioso d'Este (1725–1813), who commissioned the architectural design to Giuseppe Piermarini, who was simultaneously working on the Archducal Palaces.
The architect from Foligno was assisted by artists and craftsmen of the late taste, such as Martin Knoller, Giocondo Albertolli, Giuseppe Franchi, Agostino and Carlo Francesco Gerli, with iconographic consultancy provided by Giuseppe Parini.
Alberico XII was also a cultured and attentive patron, bringing together one of the most representative artistic and literary collections of the time within his residence in Milan. This collection can now be reconstructed thanks to materials preserved in the Archivio Primogeniale Belgioioso, made available to scholars and researchers by the Fondazione Brivio Sforza.
The music of the Quartetto Noῦs will introduce the book presentation.
