February 2026

From 12 to 18 February 2026, the Fondazione Brivio Sforza hosted the Malion Quartett at Villa Belgiojoso Brivio Sforza for an artistic residency carried out in collaboration with Le Dimore del Quartetto.

The residency offered the musicians dedicated time for study and for deepening their work on new repertoire, in preparation for the third edition of the Malion Musikfestival, scheduled for March 2026. It was an opportunity for focus and creative work, made possible by the meeting between support for young chamber music and the cultural value of the places that welcomed them.

At the end of the residency, the quartet shared a dress rehearsal of the programme in preparation with the Foundation’s guests.

Founded in Frankfurt am Main in 2018, the Malion Quartett has rapidly established itself as one of the most versatile ensembles on the international scene, distinguished by numerous awards at prestigious competitions such as the Deutsche Musikwettbewerb, the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition, and the “Joseph Joachim” Competition in Weimar.

Active on major European and Asian stages, the quartet has performed in venues including Alte Oper Frankfurt, Cologne Philharmonie, London’s Wigmore Hall, Osaka’s Izumi Hall, and the Cité de la musique in Paris, and is a regular guest at leading festivals such as the Rheingau Musik Festival, Beethovenfest Bonn, and Heidelberger Frühling.

Alongside its intense concert activity, the Malion Quartett collaborates with artists such as Jörg Widmann, Kit Armstrong, Juliane Banse, and the Vogler Quartet, and develops original projects aimed at making classical music more accessible through innovative formats, unconventional venues, and digital media.

Among these are the Malion Music Festival and the series “What does Beethoven have to do with me?”. The music film Große Fuge received an Opus Klassik nomination. The ensemble has also released three critically acclaimed CDs.

The quartet’s repertoire spans the great classical tradition, contemporary works, and interdisciplinary projects involving dance, theatre, electronics, video, and light installations. Numerous radio productions for SWR, WDR, BR, HR, and Deutschlandradio testify to the breadth of their artistic activity.

Supported by institutions such as the Deutsche Musikrat, Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz, and the European platform MERITA of Le Dimore del Quartetto, the Malion Quartett has received important artistic guidance from Alfred Brendel, Eberhard Feltz, and members of ensembles including the Alban Berg Quartet, Cuarteto Casals, Cuarteto Quiroga, and Meta4.

The four musicians studied as a quartet with Tim Vogler in Frankfurt and Oliver Wille in Hanover.
