The intelligence and musical sensitivity of Gabriele Carcano have made him one of the most accomplished Italian musicians of his generation.
In 2004, he won the Casella Prize at the “Premio Venezia” Competition, making his debut at Teatro La Fenice. He has since performed in venues and concert series such as the Tonhalle in Zurich, the Herkulessaal in Munich, Salle Pleyel, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and Cité de la Musique in Paris, Società del Quartetto in Milan, Amici della Musica in Florence, Wigmore Hall in London, the Piano aux Jacobins Festival in Toulouse, Orchestre National de Montpellier, Orchestra Verdi in Milan, Fundación Scherzo in Madrid, Staatskapelle Weimar, the International Piano Festival at the Mariinsky in St. Petersburg, Musashino Hall in Tokyo, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, and the Jerusalem Theatre, collaborating with conductors such as Ton Koopman, Daniel Oren, Lawrence Foster, Ion Marin, and Alain Altinoglu.
An active chamber musician, he regularly collaborates with artists such as Carolin Widmann, Enrico Dindo, Viviane Hagner, Marie-Elisabeth Hecker, and Stephen Waarts.
Winner of the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship in 2010, he received an immediate invitation from Mitsuko Uchida to the Marlboro Music Festival, subsequently taking part in several of the festival’s U.S. tours, including performances at Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall. Between 2020 and 2022, he performed the complete Beethoven Sonatas with the Fidelio Orchestra in London.
His two solo albums, Brahms for Oehms Classics and Schumann for Rubicon Classics, were awarded the Supersonic Award and received enthusiastic reviews in several countries, and his concerts have been broadcast by radio stations worldwide.
After graduating at the age of 17 from the conservatory in his hometown, he continued his studies with Andrea Lucchesini at the Accademia di Musica di Pinerolo and with Aldo Ciccolini in Paris, as well as with Nicholas Angelich at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris and with Marie-Françoise Bucquet. He has also benefited from the guidance of pianists such as Leon Fleisher, Richard Goode, Mitsuko Uchida, and Alfred Brendel.
For several years, he has held an advanced course at the Accademia di Musica di Pinerolo, and in 2026 he was appointed Professor at the prestigious Mozarteum in Salzburg.
