Volume "Villa Belgioioso Brivio Sforza a Merate"
On Tuesday, 7 October 2025, at 6.30 pm, Palazzo Belgioioso will host the presentation of the new book ‘Villa Belgioioso Brivio Sforza in Merate. A taste for the arts and magnificence in the home of Barbara D'Adda Belgioioso and her children’, the second volume promoted by the Brivio Sforza Foundation and edited by Jessica Gritti and Alessandra Squizzato.
The book will be presented by Alessandro Brivio Sforza, President of the Brivio Sforza Foundation, and Marco Magnifico, President of FAI – Fondo Ambiente Italiano, together with contributions from Alessandra Squizzato (Catholic University of Milan), Francesco Repishti (Milan Polytechnic), Sergio Monferrini (Researcher) and Jessica Gritti (Milan Polytechnic).
The publication, the result of extensive research, pays tribute to the families who, over the centuries, have contributed to transforming the Belgioioso villa in Merate into a veritable villa of delight.
Through archival documents, critical studies and new investigations, the volume highlights the decisive role of the women who have marked the history of the Belgioioso villa in Merate: from Barbara D'Adda Belgioioso, who initiated the transformations, to Amalia Canziani Belgioioso, who turned it into a cultural centre animated by artists and musicians, to Giulia Belgioioso Trivulzio, who cared for it with dedication until it passed to Marianna Trivulzio, wife of Annibale Brivio Sforza. The villa is thus described not only as a place of beauty, but also as a dwelling place for the soul, a space for memories and feelings handed down through generations.
We would like to thank Giovanni Accornero for lending us the Antonio Vinaccia mandolin, Naples 1775, formerly owned by Beatrice Barbiano di Belgioioso d'Este.
For this occasion, Maestro Ugo Orlandi will play Antonio Riggieri's piece “Variations on the theme ‘La Fustemberg’ for mandolin”.
By invitation only
